Texor Petroleum has been a proud sponsor of the Minuteman Classic Summer High School basketball tournament for the last twelve years. The tournament has included some of the best teams and players in Illinois state history including Eddy Curry, Dee Brown, Shannon Brown and a host of other Division I players. On the girl’s side, each of the Minuteman finalists over the last three years have made it to the Elite Eight and last summer’s runner up, Fenwick, won the IHSA AA State title last spring.
All proceeds at the gate and concession stand raise money for the D.A.R.E. programs run by local police departments, which serve Texor’s Minuteman locations. Over the past twelve years over $69,000 has been put back into the communities that Minuteman serves. Local police use these funds for books and information to educate grammar school children on the dangers of drugs and alcohol and to teach them to resist violence.
This year’s tournament will be held on Friday July 6th and Saturday July 7th at York High School in Elmhurst. York is located on St. Charles Road just east of Route 83. All games will begin at 1:00 pm on Friday and run until 8:00 pm. Saturday’s boy’s games begin at 9:30 am and run until 5:30. The girl’s games begin at 9:30 am and run until 4:30 pm. 92 games will be played over the two-day period on six courts.
